Which Park to Choose

The Han River runs through Seoul for 41.5 kilometers, with twelve public parks along its banks. For first-time visitors, the choice comes down to two:

Banpo Hangang Park — The Romantic Option
Banpo is the romantic viewpoint — the best choice for couples or photography. You can enjoy the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain and the stunning Some Sevit floating islands. The sunset here is beautiful. 

The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain at Banpo Bridge is the world's longest bridge fountain at 1,140 meters, running shows at 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, and 9:00 PM (with an added 9:30 PM show July–August). Each show runs 20 minutes.

Yeouido Hangang Park — The Classic Option
Yeouido is the most popular and convenient spot. Spacious, well-organized, and close to shopping malls like IFC and The Hyundai Seoul. Great for groups who want a lively atmosphere. 

The lawn area here is large enough that it rarely feels truly crowded even on peak summer weekends, and the proximity to Yeouido's commercial district means easy backup options if weather changes.

Ttukseom — The Local Vibe
Less crowded than the others but still excellent facilities. Locals love this area for its relaxed vibe. The swimming pool here (open June 19 – August 30 in 2026) adds a summer dimension the other parks don't have.

What to Eat — The Three Options

Option 1: Hangang Ramen (한강 라면) — The Unmissable Experience

Instant noodles cooked with dedicated machines at convenience stores within the park make for the best outdoor meal. When you purchase ramen at a convenience store, you receive a dedicated paper container. Simply scan the barcode on the cooking machine and press the start button — the machine automatically handles everything from water adjustment to cooking time. 

This costs around ₩1,500–2,000. Eating hot ramen by the river with a breeze coming off the water is a specific Seoul ritual that's genuinely better than it sounds.

Automated ramen cooking stations are found in GS25, CU, and 7-Eleven convenience stores located along the river.

Option 2: Delivery Food — Fried Chicken to the Grass

As of 2025–2026, major Korean delivery apps Baemin and Coupang Eats both support English interfaces and accept international credit cards — meaning you can have fried chicken delivered directly to your GPS location in the park. 

How delivery zones work:
Delivery riders cannot enter the grass area, so you must meet them at designated spots near the entrance. When you receive a notification that the food has arrived, motorcycles will be waiting under the delivery zone sign. Check the motorcycle number or restaurant name, greet the driver, and receive your food. 

It often takes about an hour for deliveries to arrive at the Han River, so place your order before you head to your picnic spot. 

The chimaek combination — fried chicken (치킨) and cold beer (맥주) — is the classic Han River order. Order boneless fried chicken (순살 치킨) so you can eat cleanly with a fork.

Option 3: Convenience Store Shopping

Convenience stores within the parks often don't offer discounts or special promotions on beer and beverages. Shop at stores located outside the Han River parks for better prices. Stop at a GS25 or CU near the subway station before entering the park — the price difference on beer especially is noticeable.

Picnic Rentals — You Don't Need to Bring Anything

A Han River picnic is possible without heavy preparations. You can rent picnic sets at rental shops near the subway stations. 

Rental packages near Banpo and Yeouido typically include mats, cushions, and sometimes small tables. Picnic rental packages range from ₩10,000 to ₩50,000 and include mats, embossed mats, and optional tables.

For tent rentals: Tents must be smaller than 6.6 x 6.6 feet and have at least two sides open for airflow — Seoul city regulations require this, and rental shops like Healing Tent offer options that comply with these rules.

2026 Rules and Regulations

As crowds flock to Han River picnic spots, Seoul City's regulations as of 2026 have become quite strict. Violating these rules can result in an immediate on-the-spot fine of up to ₩1,000,000 (approx. $720 USD). 

Key rules to know:

• No open fires or charcoal grills anywhere except Nanji Park's designated camping area
• Tents must have at least two sides open
• Music should be kept at a considerate volume — loud speakers draw complaints and enforcement
• Clean up completely before leaving; trash bins are available throughout all parks
• No alcohol brought from home is enforced in some zones — buy from the park convenience stores instead

Practical Notes

When to arrive: Around 5 PM, spots start filling fast. Arriving around 4:00 PM lets you enjoy the afternoon sun, catch the sunset, and see the bridge lights turn on for the fountain show. 

Bike rentals: Seoul's public bike share program Ttareungyi has stations at every Han River park. ₩1,000 for the first hour through the app (English available). The riverside bike paths run continuously across all parks.

Restrooms and Wi-Fi: All park restrooms are free to use and well-maintained. Public free Wi-Fi provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Government is available at high speeds in most delivery zones and park plazas. 

Payment: Most major convenience stores in the park now support international contactless payments, but carrying a physical card is recommended as a backup.
